Story
Hi All,
Thanks so much for taking the time to check out my fundraiser.
I set up this fundraiser to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland’s 65 Roses Day campaign in memory of my late brother, Darren.
Darren passed away on the 18th September 2021 from Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 36. On the 9th April I will Climb Croagh Patrick in memory of my beautiful brother and to honour our bucket list hikes we planned before he passed.
Darren was the most amazing, caring and funniest person I have ever known, not to be bias as he is my one and only but no matter where Darren went or what he did it was always with love, passion and with a massive smile on his face. Darren was my best friend, my confidant, my ride or die and we adored each other.
Darren battled with Cystic Fibrosis his whole life, but he never let his illness stop him from doing anything, once he set his mind to it, he went full throttle. Darren was a lover of life, loved his freedom, loved to get out and enjoy the world. Before we found out Darren was going through rejection after his double lung transplant, we had so many plans for the future, one of which included to climb Croagh Patrick. I want to dedicate this climb to Darren, continue to celebrate life in his honour and raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.
Ireland has the highest incidence of Cystic Fibrosis in the world – approximately 1 in 19 Irish people are said to 'carry' one copy of the altered gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis is a multi-organ disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections.
CF Ireland is a voluntary organisation that was set up by parents in 1963 to improve the treatment and facilities for people with Cystic Fibrosis in Ireland. They also co-operate with medical professional to give maximum support to both parents and children/adults with Cystic Fibrosis. CF Ireland is supported by fundraising and voluntary contributions. 65 Roses Day is CF Ireland’s National Fundraising Day and their largest event. This year CFI have a target to raise €350,000 to help fund essential services so I am hoping to help bring awareness and raise some much needed funds for a charity that has helped us and so many families like ours throughout the years.
On the 9th of April at 11am I will be climbing Croagh Patrick to pay tribute to the wonderful person Darren was. I would like to extend the invitation to anyone who would like to join me on the day and feel free to share this page with your family and friends to raise as much awareness and funds possible. Darren was a lover of life, loved people, having the craic and always down for an aul hoolie so it will be a day filled with love and laughs to celebrate the Legend my brother was.
