Story
Inspired by Kevin Sinfield running 101 miles for his 'Extra Mile Challenge' for Motor Neurone Disease we have decided to try and take on an extra 4 miles for MND. We are attempting the 104 mile Pennine Journey running race on April 30th 2022.
The circular route has 8 checkpoints and there is a time limit of 36 hours to complete the course. Running over moorland, along Hadrian's Wall and climbing over High Cup Nick will be no easy task for sure...
Sadly my Aunty Ros passed of Motor Neurone Disease, a rare condition affecting the brain and nerves. Since her passing, my family have raised money for MND; the whole family walked the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, my cousin Richard cycled from Harrogate to Cornwall and Uncle Mike walked the entire South West Coast Path in memory of his late wife. We don't do things by halves.
Fortunately, in the running world, there are always like-minded (crazy) people and Andrew Merrick has very kindly stepped up to attempt the challenge with me. He is also running for MND. I would never have entered on my own, so thank you very much Andrew.
After months of training and recently a very sore hamstring (which TBH has nearly made me pull out because I am so worried I will not make it to the end), we have decided to think positively and attempt the challenge. We know it will not be easy.
Many people know that former Leeds Rhinos scrum-half Rob Burrow was diagnosed with MND in December 2019. He is one of an estimated 5,000 adults in the UK currently living with motor neurone disease. Every day, an average of six people are diagnosed with MND. The MND Association focuses on improving access to care, funding research and campaigning for those people living with, or affected by, MND. A donation today will not only help to support families living with MND it will also fund vital research for a cure.
With your help, we hope to save other families from the heartache of a motor neurone disease diagnosis in the future. Any donation, however small and insignificant it may seem, will be very much appreciated.
Running 104 miles for such a good cause will spur us on when it gets tough. We really hope that like Kevin Sinfield, we too can 'go the extra mile' for people affected by MND.
Thank you very much indeed, Rebecca & Andrew xx
