We fight homelessness in the West Midlands to give young people a brighter future.

Story

On the 3rd October 2021 I will be taking part in the Virgin Money London Marathon. This will be my first marathon and I am running in support of youth homelessness charity, St Basils.

I am both excited and nervous about the challenge and really, really looking forward to crossing the finishing line having raised some much needed funds for this very worthy charity. I have supported St Basils for over 10 years, in particular with the legendary winter 'sleep-out' and also had the privilege work closely with the fund-raising team as volunteer  - St Basils is a hugely respected charity doing some amazing work across the West Midlands......

St Basils works with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, helping over 5000 young people per year across the West Midlands region with specific services in Birmingham, Coventry, Leamington Spa, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and the Wyre Forest. Every year around 1200 young people are housed in St Basils 39 supported accommodation schemes, which for some young people also includes their own
young children as well.

St Basils offer a range of prevention, accommodation, support, employability and engagement services to help young people regain the stability they need to rebuild their lives, gain skills, confidence and employment and move on.

The aim is to help them successfully break the ‘cycle of homelessness’ so that they can go on to experience a bright, fulfilling future and never return to a state where they are at risk of homelessness again. It costs St Basils £5 per young person per day in order for a young person to stay at a St Basils project. Every donation matters. https://stbasils.org.uk/

£125 allows St Basils to put a young person through their
employability program. The skills learned on this program get young people ready for work so that they can make their own money and not have to rely on St Basils (or anyone else) again – a huge step.

£50 donation would help St Basils house a young person in one of
their accommodation projects for 10 nights, giving them all the support they
need to prevent homelessness from being a part of their lives again

£20 will buy brand new bedding and bed linen for a young person to help them settle-in to their new accommodation

£10  will buy a young person a new pair of smart shoes so they can attend an interview following completion of the St Basils  #YouCanEmployability programme

There’s still time to donate so if you can spare a few £££’s please click the link.
