Story
There are almost 1 million people living with dementia in the UK, with Alzheimer’s disease being the most common cause of dementia, affecting around six in every 10 people with dementia in the UK. It is estimated that for every child born this year, one in three can be expected to develop dementia during their lifetime, which demonstrates the scale of the fight we have on our hands. It’s
a sobering figure, and with no current cure for Alzheimer’s disease or any other type of dementia, it gives us cause to focus our efforts on finding cures, prevention and treatments.
The current cost of dementia on the UK economy is £26Billion and is set to continue rising, impacting the lives of those living with dementia and the families and friends around them. More than half of the UK public now knows someone who has been diagnosed with some form of dementia and it’s estimated that there are over 700,000 informal dementia careers in the UK.
Martin will be fundraising on behalf of Alzheimer’s Research UK by running the Reading half-marathon on the 7th November. We are hoping that you would be willing to donate towards this worthy cause.
