Story
I’m taking part in Scumrun 2018 and driving across Europe in an old banger for Action Medical Research.
Action funds vital life-saving research into rare childhood diseases, disabilities and saving tiny babies. You might not have heard of them but we have all been touched by what they do. Action were involved in funding the research that led to the first UK polio vaccine and diagnostic ultrasound in pregnancy to name just two everyday medical advances that have protected and saved children all over the world.
This short animated video explains the huge impact they’ve had over the last 65 years, all thanks to wonderful people like you. Thanks to this support they are able to fund research into fatal conditions where there is otherwise a real lack of investment.
Make yourself a cuppa, grab the tissues and watch this other 5 minute video about one family who found that three of their children, Toby, Corey & Izzy are affected by juvenile Batten disease. This is just one study of 75 the charity funds at any one time.
Another area in which Action has been investing over the past 20 years is the development of cooling therapy to help the newborns likely to lose their life or be permanently disabled after suffering brain damage from oxygen shortage. The treatment cools the body to reduce brain temperature enabling doctors to alter the chemical processes that lead to brain damage.
Thank you for taking the time to read about why I’m supporting Action. May I respectfully ask you to dig deep and sponsor me to fund Action’s great research to change and save little lives.
