Red Balloon down the Thames, 22 July 2019
We provide education, therapy and wellbeing to help bullied and traumatised children

Story

My 8 year old daughter and I have decided to canoe the River Thames from the source (in Gloucestershire) to London, to raise money for Red Balloon Learner Centre North West London (RBNWL). This will involve 8 days of paddling, camping each night and more than 120 miles to cover!

RBNWL is a therapeutic learning centre for vulnerable children who have undergone trauma such as abuse or severe bullying. To rebuild their self esteem and resilience RBNWL offers experiences like the Duke of Edinburgh Award and funds raised through this challenge will go towards these valuable and life changing opportunities for students.

About the charity

16,000 children in the UK are so badly bullied that they cannot go to school. The aim of Red Balloon is to aid their recovery by providing them with an 'intensive care' full-time academic and personal and social education programme so that they can return to mainstream school or go on to college.
