Story
In the first two months (3/16-5/22) of the COVID-19 crisis, the YMCA has mobilized it's branches to provide 12 emergency child care sites for essential workers (e.g., healthcare providers, first responders) and 58 hunger prevention distribution sites. These sites have provided over 56,310 hours of safe and nurturing care to children, 725,000 grab and go prepared meals for families, and 34,000 bags of groceries that feed a family of 4 for 3 days and seniors for 1 week. Now more than ever we need organizations like the YMCA, which 150 years after its founding, still manages to morph into the moment. Unlike smaller nonprofits, the YMCA has not received forgivable loans through the Paycheck Protection Program. They need our support more than ever to ensure that they can continue to do incredible work throughout Boston, standing beside vulnerable populations and ensuring children are nurtured and nourished. All donations made to COVID-19 Response Community Programming will go to the YMCA of Greater Boston's Annual Fund, which supports areas of greatest need in our community; emergency care for essential workers and vulnerable children, and preventing hunger so no child is hungry.
