Story
I lost my Dad to liver cancer in August 2013. I cant believe its a year since we said goodbye...
Dad was always such an active man, a keen hillwalker, eat well and his life was balanced. Not a big drinker and non smoker, he was diagnosed in November 2012, with no treatmenet being offered other than palliative care. This is where CLAN came into our lives. Dad attended weekly sessions of Aqua Detox and massage therapy to help ease his tired body. He had a weekly focus to go and see "the girls" at CLAN house and built up lovely friendships with the therapists.
Since Dads passing, they have offered my family and me ongoing support. I have seen a bereavement counselor who has help me work through his loss and well as other life issues. She has been a true rock, and I know she will be in my life ongoing. The CLAN team from the receptionsits to the volunteers always make you feel so much at ease and welcome you with a smile and positive attitide. The CLAN haven I know offers much needed accomodation and support to those going through treatment or their families staying to support them. Having cancer or dealing with cancer can be such an exhausting experience having the support of the CLAN facility goes some way to making it easier.
I know how hard the fundraising team work and patrons of CLAN to keep this charity at the forefront of everyone's mind. It is not a 9-5 job. CLAN are there for everyone effected by cancer not just those who are suffering.
Unfortunately this disease is around us all, whilst there is fantastic research going on to save lives, I know during my own life time CLAN will be there, but no without the ongoing committment to raise funds to keep it going. So please contribute what you can, a donnation no matter the size, volunteer at events or at CLAN house itself, show your support in any way you can.
Thank you for reading my storey, and why CLAN have made a difference in to my life.
