Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Your support is very much appreciated.
The Raymond Holland Dock Workers Memorial Fund, (RHDWMF) has been set up in memory of our beloved dad and in memory of all other dock workers and industry workers that have sadly lost their lives to Mesothelioma following exposure to asbestos. The aim of the RHDWMF is to support and raise vital funds towards the much needed research into finding a cure for Mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer.
Raymond, known to his family, friends and colleagues as Ray worked as a docker for over 30 years and sadly contracted Mesothelioma following exposure to asbestos during his working career.
After a very courageous battle against the disease he sadly lost his fight for life in November 2011 aged 77. Ray left behind his devoted wife Margaret, 5 children, 7 grandchildren and a great grand-daughter. He will be forever in our hearts and sadly missed by all.
Mesothelioma is a malignant lung disease caused by the exposure to asbestos and can take up to 60 years to develop following exposure. Sadly the number of deaths caused by this disease are on the increase. The greatest risk group are men born between 1945-1950 and sadly someone will die of mesothelioma every 5 hours in the UK. It is estimated that by 2035 Mesothelioma will have claimed over a million lives.
All donations recieved by the RHDWMF are used to support the vital work of the June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund. Registered Charity. We hope to help find a cure for Mesothelioma by raising as much money as we possibly can in support of this research fund.
