Story
Hi! and thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
Here I am, a sub-standard runner who has decided to run 12 marathons in 12 months for my local (Chilterns) branch of Samaritans.
Why do I support them? I lost my dad to suicide and the thought of him feeling so alone is really upsetting. I don't want anyone to feel that way. I just want to be able to say….you're not alone, reach out, talk it through, there is someone who cares. I hope that by supporting Samaritans it enables that support to be there.
My local branch is amazing, kind hearted volunteers providing support round the clock to those in emotional distress. They offer support by phone, email and also provide outreach services. Pre-covid they were also open to visitors who would prefer some support in person.
This service was very much needed pre-covid, and it seems it's even more so now. The Chilterns branch are an incredibly wonderful and caring team, and every single one a volunteer.
On average, each volunteer here handles around 300 calls per year….just imagine if they were all life saving calls! Now that's pretty amazing.
After many false (covid related) starts, I was able to kick off with marathon 1 in October 2020. My schedule is as follows:
1 Done! 10 October - Manchester
2 Done! 30 October - Lulworth Cove - HILLY and Scary! - Dorset
