Story
My name is Ranw Aso-Rashid, a secondary school science teacher of 5 years in London.
On 16 January 2021, my Father suffered a severe heart attack and was tested positive for COVID-19. This made him extremely clinically vulnerable. After being rushed to Princess Royal Hospital, he was deemed to be in a critical state and required emergency heart surgery at King's College Hospital. At King's, he had a stent implanted in a blocked coronary artery which saved his life.
I am running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for King's College Hospital's Charity on 23 May 2021. Because my Father would not be alive today if it were not for the heroic efforts of the incredible CathLab cardiac team who continue to look after him to this day. This is especially significant considering the huge patient/COVID case load intake the hospital has been experiencing since Christmas last year. The exceptional speed at which the doctors moved to perform life saving heart surgery on my Father left a lasting impression on me. The same applies to the wonderful paramedics who looked after him.
I want to raise money for the hospital's charity. The minimum to raise for the event is £350, but I'm keen to exceed this target and reach at least £1000.
Your contribution to this fundraiser will go towards achieving the following priorities for King’s College Hospital (KCH):
1. Save lives:
The money will contribute to the hospital charity’s funds for purchasing the most advanced medical technologies to diagnose and treat diseases.
Purchasing such technology will provide surgeons with an outstanding ability to diagnose diseases, improving the success of a wide range of treatments for adults and children suffering from a variety of life changing injuries and life threatening diseases.
2. Make the Hospital environment better and more inclusive:
Your contributions will help to directly improve the experience of patients and their families in King’s new Critical Care Centre. New bedside technology, access to fresh air and the outside world and beautiful art installations will make all patients’ stay in hospital very different. For the first time, the hospital charity can use donated money to be able to research the demonstrable benefits of technology and environmental enhancements on treatment and recovery; opening up new opportunities to transform care for the very sickest people in their care.
Any amount you can contribute is appreciated. The Charity can reclaim an extra 25% of each donation with GiftAid.
Understandably not everyone can donate to the campaign but may want to contribute in other ways. In that context, please share this page with others on and off social media.
To all the Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics who saved my Father's life, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
