Story
Hi there, and thanks for checking out my JustGiving page!
My name is Shaun and I will be doing a 12-Hour Gaming marathon challenge stream to raise money for the UK's eating disorder charity, Beat on Saturday 15th July 2023!
Starting at 10am and playing until 10pm, I will be attempting to complete as many Mega Man games as possible across the Mega Man Legacy Collection in 12 hours, all in efforts to raise money and awareness for this amazing charity.
My Twitch channel, RantDotOver, can be found by visiting http://www.twitch.tv/rantdotover
This is the 2nd year we've chosen to raise funds for this incredible cause following the massive success of last year's 12-hour charity stream which raised over £700 to support those in need of extra help regarding eating disorders.
Any further help we can provide would mean the world to me!
My story
The main reason I'm raising money for Beat is because I've had my own challenging experiences with eating disorders for the vast majority of my life.
From the very young age of 1, I grew up struggling to eat an incredibly large variety of foods. Meat, vegetables, fruits, eggs all fell by the wayside in favour for chips / fries, bread and snack foods and the idea of trying new foods was borderline phobia, triggering violent reactions and panic.
This continued for approximately 25 years of my life, until through support and guidance from professional experts and close family & friends, I've worked to overcome the vast majority of my eating disorder to now live with a much healthier diet.
The effects that eating disorders can have, both physically and mentally, can be incredibly difficult to go through and it's very challenging to understand where to turn for support. That's why I'm hoping to raise money for Beat, who provide dedicated support to people undergoing these potentially life-threatening challenges, as well as raise important awareness about eating disorders in the UK.
My goal is raise £400 to support the incredible work that Beat carry out and help provide even a fraction of support to someone who is undergoing something similar or worse to myself.
Beat, the UK's Eating Disorder charity
Beat is the UK’s eating disorder charity. Their mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. These serious mental illnesses ruin and, too often, take lives. Beat's Helpline is available online or by phone 365 days a year for anyone suffering, as well as their family and friends.
£48 could help Beat to answer three telephone calls to support those reaching out to speak about their eating disorder for the very first time
£140 could help Beat to host ten of their online support groups, providing a friendly, safe and welcoming space where people can chat with others who understand what they're going through.
In May this year alone, Beat were able to answer 878 calls, 398 emails, 2,668 web chats and provide 808 support sessions for our online groups - all the help support people who needed guidance and care about eating disorders.
Thank you again for reading about my fundraising for Beat and I hope you can help us raise any money we can for this incredible charity.
