Story
Dear Friends,
I’m excited (and per my usual with any physically demanding activity, a bit anxious and challenged) to be participating in this year’s Climb for a Cause at Mount Olympus, August 18 – 22. In my work with Washington’s National Park Fund while serving at Mount Rainier National Park, I saw firsthand the incredible good that is accomplished in our parks through the donations of people who care deeply about them. I am honored to support such a worthy Cause.
The climb is also personal for me. After six years of seasonal work, my first permanent job with the NPS was in 1983 as the Hoh Area
Ranger. I have fond memories from the Hoh – the river in all its moods, the magnificent forest, the people, and the rain! – yet never made it to the top of Olympus. The August hike and climb will be my first trip back to the Hoh since leaving in 1984. I expect the mountain
will be much bigger than it was back then, and as climbing is on some level embracing suffering, so it is that I am calling this endeavor, “Suffer for a Cause”. Come join with me as we embrace this opportunity and challenge together. I’ll do the suffering alone.

I've created this page because I want to support the work of Washington's National Park Fund by raising money as part of my participation in 2021 Climb for a Cause. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Donate' button! The more people that know about Washington's National Park Fund, the greater their impact, so PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD by sharing my page. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot to the many who use and enjoy our National parks!
