Story
This is a group page for around 25 school friends who are coming back together to hike an unexpectedly hilly half-marathon through the Wye Valley in September 2022.
In 1995, when we were all just 17, we lost our extraordinary classmate, Elinor Green, to cancer. Elinor's astounding grace, wisdom and courage in facing her illness and death were inspirational. Please copy & paste the links to read her poem, Meaning, and a short reflective essay, Meditation on Impending Death, both of which she wrote in her final weeks.

In the 27 years since Elinor's illness and death, many of us have lost loved ones to cancer, and some of us are living with cancer diagnoses ourselves. Our experiences have taught us that the battle against cancer is fought not only with medical treatment, but with the vital support of family, friends, and organisations. We are reuniting to honour Elinor's legacy by raising money for Macmillan Cancer Care, which offers life-changing assistance to thousands of cancer patients, their families and friends, every single year.
Please do donate what you can - we're going to need the motivation, not least because we're meeting up for a reunion meal the night before and the walk starts at 9.30am the next morning. Fourteen and a half miles of Welsh hills with a hangover will be a significant challenge.
Thank you for anything you can pledge.
