Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Ralph and Elliott's JustGiving page.
My two gorgeous and amazingly kind-hearted Godsons are looking to raise
some money for the brilliant St. Oswald’s Hospice in loving memory of their equally amazing and kind-hearted Grandma. Karen was a former Macmillan Specialist Nurse who following a bitter and hard-fought battle with cancer, sadly passed away whilst resident at St. Oswald’s.
Ralph and Elliott have decided to raise money by cycling 60 laps (in a loop/circle) around their block, which is approx. 0.3miles per lap, and 60
laps as their beloved grandma was 60 when she grew her angel wings – they will also be accompanied by their wonderful mummy Claire of course.
Ralph (7) and Elliott (5) have decided that they would like to raise money in the memory of their grandma, for the hospice that she stayed in, during the last few weeks of her life.
Having visited her multiple times, they were able to see, despite their young age that the care and love there was exemplary. Not just the love that Karen received, but also ‘Domino’ – the Hospice’s adopted cat (Domino adopted the Hospice).
Domino spent many an evening in Karen’s room and adored (and was adored by) the boys. Following Karen’s passing, the boys still speak fondly of St. Oswald’s and of Domino and are determined to raise funds for the Hospice and for food for Domino.
Ralph and Elliott’s mum Claire had this to say about St Oswald's Hospice in Gosforth, Newcastle:
“It was here that we were able to see her finally comfortable and receive the best care we could have wished for. We were able to take her outside (for
the first time in months), we were able to make special memories and stay with her by her side throughout, even overnight. They truly were amazing!”
St. Oswald’s provide Outstanding care (CQC, 2016) to not just adults, but also to babies, children and young adults with life-limiting conditions. Providing ongoing care not just for them but also their siblings, parents and family as a whole and rely on charitable funding to maintain this high level of committed and dedicated care. Unfortunately, as with almost all charities, their funding has taken a major hit this last 12-months due to the Corona Virus outbreak.
