Story
This Audi Quattro is owned and driven by Alan Pemberton, from Romiley near Stockport and this year is navigated by Kris Pirie from Warrington. In 2004 the crew was the highest fund raiser on the North West Stages, raising nearly £1000 for Marie Currie Cancer Care. Since then the car has competed abroad in Rally Nederland a gruelling 500km 14 hour event on closed public roads. Alan Pemberton finish a very credible 11th in class competing against some of the best cars and drivers in Europe . Alan has been competing back in Holland, France and Belgium in 2005 and 2006 getting some continental experience under his belt and is pleased to back for the North West Stages 2007.
The car is an Audi 20 valve Coupe Quattro (hence the registration!). The 2.2 turbo 5 cylinder unit is the same type of engine as found in the Group B rally car of the mid 1980’s but now has to be fitted with the statutory 34mm restrictor reducing the air flow to the turbo significantly. Both cams have been profiled by Piper Cams and the cylinder head work done by race engine builders Impulse Developments of Rochdale. The car is maintained by Alan to International FIA Homologation Regulations and it is now permitted to run on the continent in the ‘historic’ class for cars last homologated more than 10 years ago. The Audi S2 was rarely seen as part of the regular rallying apart from a brief season driven by Johnny Milner in the Shell Scholarship colours.
The crew are looking forward to a day of fun and competitive driving through the stages of this only multi venue stage event in the North West and would like to thank all the Organisers, Marshalls Land Owners and competitors for making this event happen each year.
