Story
In September 2023, I will be joining 119 of my HSBC colleagues from around the world on a once-in-a-lifetime challenge to trek through the rugged landscapes of Jordan to raise money and awareness of Sustainability.
What's involved:
It involves more than 100kms of trekking across the deserted dunes of Wadi Rum and Petra in Jordan. With no access to typical facilities like hot showers, WiFi and a comfortable bed, everyone will be carrying their own personal equipment and camping gear for 5 days, sleeping rough in the middle of nowhere, in order to raise money for Sustainability. This trek will take the team through untamed land, some of which is untouched by humans.
In addition, we have to demonstrate our commitment to charitable sustainability work and meet an individual fundraising target of $1000, which will be for the Jordan River Foundation, a charity in our host country and the charity for which the HSBC Trekkers are fundraising as a group.
About the Charity:
Jordan River Foundation : Celebrating 28 years sinc its establishment, JRF continues to build a Jordan for safer children, equal opportunities, and sustainable growth, as it marks the commendable transformation of more than 2 million beneficiaries reached under its Community Empowerment and Child Safety Programs.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, domestic violence against women and children have intensified, UN coins it as the 'shadow pandemic'. JRF helps to curb all forms of violence and abuse through child protection interventions, rehabilitation services, prevention programs and sound parenting training.
Driven by values of social justice, impactful interventions to alleviate poverty, and socio-economic empowerment - focusing on women and youth, JRF implements various programs to achieve its mission of transforming Jordanian communities.
My take on it:
Whilst on the professional front I'm helping the organisation to meet its Net Zero target through the various programmes on climate transition risk and sustainable financing, I'm excited to be able to do my bit on the personal front too.
Call out to fundraise:
I will be honoured if you are able to donate to this worthy cause; you will not only be contributing to organisations working on sustainability goals that are truly life-changing for many but help me meet my goal to contribute towards sustainability and provide the encouragement to me for the arduous but surely doable journey.
