Story

What are we doing?

On Sunday 10th October our intrepid Rainbow babies, toddlers and children (with their parents) are donning their running shoes and rainbow colours to race round our 1Km course to raise money for Tommy's!

Location: Platt Fields Park, Manchester

Time: Sunday 10th October 2021, 10:30 for an 11am start

Further details (meeting point, course etc) will be emailed after registration.

The course is designed for toddlers and pre-school children, who must be accompanied by one or more parent. However, parents with buggies and older children are welcome to join in too, to run their own course or to raise money through their own activities.

Registrations are now closed. Joining instructions have been emailed to all who registered.

We would love to hear about your fundraising and to see any photos and videos that you would like to share related to the Rainbow Race.

Certificates of thanks will be provided to all our young fundraisers.

Why are we doing this?

For parents whose babies have been stillborn or died shortly after birth, a subsequent pregnancy can be very daunting. There is a higher risk of pregnancy complications, and parents often need extra care and emotional support throughout the pregnancy. However, the standard of care given to these women and their families varies across the country, often with no continuity of care. Parents have to endure the distress of having to explain their previous loss to health professionals over and over again.

The Tommy's Rainbow Clinic is a specialist service for parents who have suffered a stillbirth, neonatal death or other baby loss that provides the best possible individualised care to help and support them through a subsequent pregnancy. The first clinic was opened in 2013 at St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester, and there are now 13 active Rainbow Clinics around the country. Three new Rainbow Clinics are ready to launch, and a further 21 maternity units have Rainbow Clinics in development. It is important that we collect data to show how effective these clinics are at improving outcomes for mothers and babies.

What will the money be used for?

With your donations, Tommy's researchers and the Tommy's-supported Rainbow Clinics can continue the fight against stillbirth and baby loss, and continue to improve care for families after loss nationwide

Thank you for your support.
