Story
The goal... we asked Raife how much he would like to raise. I fully expected him to say 'ONE BILLION POUND!'. Instead he said £56. Don't know why *shrugs shoulders*.
At six month's old, our daughter Eden was admitted to hospital with a skin reaction that proved to be the earliest sign of eczema.
Recently turned two, she has suffered the discomfort, itchiness and downright pain of eczema every day since then.
Despite the piles and piles of creams and ointments, Eden spends most of her day scratching or rubbing her hands, arms, feet and legs against any rough surface she can. We've lost count of the times she's scratched to the point of drawing blood or opening wounds to infection.
Simple things that most of us take for granted, like wearing shorts in summer, are a tough choice. Recently we took our first family holiday abroad; a special moment for any family. But we spent much of it as two pairs rather than a family of four because the salt water pools burned the wounds on Eden's skin.
Anyway, onto the good part!
Already a lover of running at the age of four, her big brother Raife has decided he would like to "raise money for Eden's skin".
He came up with the idea of raising money himself after a conversation we had about the reasons people run (after watching the World Athletics Championship and now the Commonwealth Games, he was wondering why we don't always get a medal for running...!).
Already on a 1-mile run, we came up with the idea of doing that every day in August. Meaning little four-year old Raife will be running 31 miles this month, all because he wants to help his little sister! *Wipes tear away*
We recently discovered Eczema Outreach Support after struggling to cope with the reality of our daughter's day-to-day struggle with eczema. Not a medical charity, EOS instead focuses its work on helping children and young people with eczema to thrive, while also providing plenty of support to parents, too.
