Story
Meeting for the first time, Alison and Claire found they had a lot more in common than the fact that they had both been diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson's. They both worked for the NHS and both had a passion for cycling and adventure.
Roll forward four years and taking on Cure Parkinson's Raid Alpine challenge ticks all the boxes. Along with Alison's husband John, friends Roland and John W; Claire and Alison will depart the shores of Lake Geneva and will cycle 770km over 10 days climbing a staggering 18,000m of vertical ascent (over two times the height of Everest) to finish in the stunning town of Antibes at the same time as the team doing the same challenge over six days..
Supported by Claire's mum, Alison & John's eldest son, Callum and a friend, there is no doubt that a huge challenge lies ahead for the team and it certainly promises to be an adventure for all concerned.
Whilst most of the team are putting in their last few days training on home ground, Claire has taken a more creative (and certainly more challenging) approach. She has already set off from the UK for Lake Geneva on her bike. She is cycling there, of course!
The team are raising funds for Cure Parkinson’s, a charity that funds cutting edge Parkinson's research and unites the world’s leading experts in the quest to find a cure for this progressive, degenerative, neurological condition.
The last two years have been incredibly challenging for Cure Parkinson's and they receive no government funding. By making a donation, you will help Cure Parkinson's to fund more research with the potential to slow, stop or reverse Parkinson's.
Thank you for your support.
