Story
We have chosen to do this to raise money for Cancer Research UK after our friend Firuzé was diagnosed (twice) and beat it. She has kindly shared her story here:
"In November 2015 I noticed some lumps in my right breast. After two doctors said they were only cysts I went with my gut and insisted on going to a Rapid Diagnostic and Assessment Centre (RDAC). 2 weeks later and I had an ultrasound that prompted a biopsy. A week after that and I sat in the consulting room with my mum, a breast cancer survivor herself, for the worst news of my life - that I had cancer a second time. I’d had a rare bone cancer when I was young and getting cancer again was my biggest fear since I was given the all clear 15 years ago. At age 27, I cried like a baby.
A mammogram showed that it had spread so much that the right breast was unsalvageable. I wasn’t taking any chances so elected to have a bilateral mastectomy, underwent two surgeries and had radiotherapy. Luckily it was caught early so my lymph nodes were clear, but not only have I lost my breasts, I have a square shaped burn on my chest and will take daily hormone therapy for the next 10 years.
You don’t fight cancer, you fight the treatment. Cancer Research is a charity that funds research for the prevention, diagnosis and new ways of treating the disease, and works to raise awareness to help you spot cancer early."
Please give what you can and we promise to give it our all and get under 3 hours 30 mins!
