Story
In December 2012 my Dad was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer, within a few days he had his kidney removed. A few months later we discovered that the cancer had spread to his lungs, pancreas and adrenal gland. Dad started chemotherapy and this initially worked and resolved the tumour in his pancreas.
A few months later, we found out that the treatment had stopped working and the cancer had worsened. Dad began a second course of treatment at the beginning of this year.
Unfortunately, last week we found out that the second treatment my dad was undergoing had failed and his cancer had worsened and had spread to his lower spine. He is currently undergoing radiotherapy on his spine to help with the pain. The doctors have now told us that there are no other treatments available.
My Dad is the most courageous and strongest person i know and he is my hero! He has battled this disease for two and a half years! So, i have decided to run the Bristol 10K, in the hopes of raising money for Cancer Research UK, to help in the fight against this disease and to contribute towards research, new treatments and support for cancer patients. I haven't run in a VERY long time and this will be a big challenge for me! But i am committed and hoping this will lead on to bigger and harder challenges in the future!!
