I wasn't Expecting That!

This year (my 40th year on this amazing earth, although until August 16th I'm still clutching to my 30's!) I had decided to do as many Race for Life's as I could and as many different fund raising events for Cancer Research that I could think of including an abseil.... Little did I know that I would be added to the list of people fighting this evil disease. On the 18th February 2016 I went into hospital to have a "cyst" removed, then on the 26th I received the most shell-shocking news that I actually had Grade 3, Triple Negative, aggressive Breast Cancer. On the 3rd March I underwent further surgery to remove more tissue and another cancerous lump, then on the 10th March I had a Mastectomy. As I'm typing this I am waiting to start my Chemotherapy which will be in a few weeks once I've recovered from all the surgery, (nb: happily I healed quickly from the surgery and on March 21st I started chemotherapy, 3 weeks early) and then a genetic test, which will determine if more surgery is needed... I'm still in a state of disbelief and shock, but one thing I know, we HAVE to keep raising money for this amazing charity as I know first hand what the research is doing and how it helps.
The chance of me doing any RforL this year is slim, but I will if I can, so a group of friends are doing them for me! This page will be used for all of the ones they/we manage to do, that way it's just one story we are telling. We are also going to use this time to fund-raise in many different ways in the Tearooms,.
So far the challenges have been: Hannah & Lotties Half Marathon, Louise's Abseil, Hannah's continuous running events, and Diz & Nettys 10k Race for Life - with many more events to follow!
My Oncologist has agreed to me taking on a slow walk in the Race for life on the 9th July - Thank you Russell..
And Thank you all of you for supporting us, it really does mean the world to me, Rachel xx
