Our worst nightmare happened when Elijah was taken into St Michaels NICU when he was first born due to dangerously high levels of jaundice. The nurses and doctors were incredible and when we were discharged 6 days later, we felt an overwhelming sense of relief. 10 days later, after just beginning to get used to family life at home, our world was turned upside down again after being rushed to Bristol Childrens Hospital. After 8 hours of investigations and scans, they found that Elijah had a narrowing of the aorta which was restricting blood flow to the bottom half of his body, including vital organs. We were told that he would have to have heart surgery that afternoon, otherwise he would die, which are the most harrowing words any parent could hear. 6 days later, after a successful surgery, incredible care and support from every medical professional we encountered and a lifetime of follow up appointments, our miracle boy’s life was saved and we were home with a bright, happy, content little boy once again.

This charity meant that we could stay 2 minutes away from our little boy while he recovered, rather than the hour and a half round trek that it would have been to come home each night and back again. They support families through one of the most difficult times that they will ever go through and nothing is too much trouble.  The words “thank you” could never be enough but this is one way we are hoping to show our appreciation.
