Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2003 I had an ectopic pregnancy. It had been misdiagnosed as a miscarriage, but when I returned a week later my doctor sent me home a second time to wait for it all to end naturally. I collapsed just a few hours after leaving her office with internal bleeding. I was ambulanced to hospital for immediate life-saving surgery, followed by time in hospital to begin the physical recovery. The mental wounds, the grief and trauma of the near-death experience, took longer to heal.
Over the following months the EPT supported me with this in many ways:
1. Provided information about ectopic pregnancy for my doctor to learn from – to reduce the chance of her misdiagnosing anyone else.
2. Provided a helpline, so I could speak to someone in the days after I arrived home from hospital. They listened, and understood what I had just experienced.
3. Facilitated online message boards so I could connect with others going through the same nightmare and provide mutual emotional support.
Now I am lucky to have the opportunity to be able to take up a challenge to reach one of my lifetime goals. …and with it the opportunity to fundraise for the EPT as my way of thanking them.
I will be running the Paris marathon on Sunday 3rd April. As someone whose greatest achievement until recently has only been to run a tap, this really is quite a monumental challenge!
You probably won’t have heard of the EPT because you have never been affected by ectopic pregnancy. But you know (of) me. And now you know my story, I hope that you will sponsor me to help me with
’My Big Thank You’.
