Story

Hello there!

Me and my fiance Andy have decided to walk up Ben Nevis on Friday 24th August, and are going to try and raise as much money as we can for the MS Society Scotland.

As some of you may know, my mum Maggie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclorosis when i was a child in and over the years i have watched her condition affect her walking ability to the point where she can no longer walk without assistance and now relies on a mobility scooter to get her out and about. When she was diagnosed in 1994 she decided to become part of the trials at Guys Hospital London for beta interferon - which is an injection to slow down the MS attacks. She did this for 4 years then when the trials ended she took it on for a futher 8 years. We now live in Ayr and she is no longer on beta interferon but is under the Douglas Grant Centre in Irvine where they regularly keep a check on MS patients if they need any assistance of any kind.

She is very independent, has a great sense of humor, she loves having a good laugh with family and friends and she see's MS as a part of her life that she just gets on with.

MS affects everyone differently, it is the result of damage to the myelin - the protective sheath around the nervous system. When damaged this interferes with messages between the brain and other parts of the body.

The MS Society Scotland provides specialist care, practical advice and support to everyone affected by MS...

£10 would help provide vital information leaflets about MS

£15 would pay for an hour of MS Research time

£30 would help towards the running costs of our MS free phone helpline

£50 would contribute to our individual support grant programme that provides mobility aids, adaptations and equipment.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Will keep you updated with photos!

Take Care,

Rachel Park
