Story

Last year Martin had viral cancer in his throat caused by HPV. This was mid lock down and caused our world to turn on it’s head as you can imagine.

To give you a brief explanation – HPV is extremely common and most adults will have had HPV at some point.. For the majority of people their body’s immune system will take care of it without any symptoms or illness. Most will pass it through their system and be fine. Some will not clear the virus and a small percentage will turn this to a cancer.  In those cases it can lie dormant for up to 20+ years and appear as cancer in later life – this is what happened to Martin.

Knowledge of this is still a very unknown territory. I had certainly no idea of it when the consultant told us about it.

It meant as a couple Martin and I were totally at a loss on how this had come about, how it would effect life now and the future prospects. The awareness to vaccinate children early is now at the forefront of The throat cancer foundation to prevent this happening to them later in life. They also provide support to families and couples going through what we have.

After a year and a half of Covid and lock downs fundraising for charities is more important than ever, please donate what you can. Thank you xxx

we are currently working on a nationwide throat cancer awareness campaign, that will include coverage media (TV, radio and newspaper) as well as poster and mail drops. We are doing this because we want to highlight a) what a throat cancer is, b) its impacts on people and their loved ones lives, c) how to prevent throat cancers from developing and d) highlighting the signs to look for to ensure early detection and better survival rates. Please help us with our work, donate to help us look after peoples throats with this awareness campaign and stop people dying needlessly.Thank you.
