Story
I am 1 of 5 siblings and in May 2020 we would meet up with our dad in local parks for our lockdown walks. On one of our walks dad had told us that he was finding it difficult to eat and swallow all of a sudden and that he has seen a doctor who advised he should have a scan asap. In June 2020 we had one of our weekly family FaceTimes where he had to tell us he was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer and passed away only 4 weeks later on the 20th of July aged 47. This was the biggest shock for us all and coming to terms with losing a parent so quickly was one of life’s biggest heartbreaks for myself and my brothers and sisters.
Dad was in and out of the Ellenor hospice during his last few weeks. Although we weren’t able to visit the hospice due to covid restrictions, they made sure we weren’t made to feel forgotten and gave constant support to his partner and us at home, offering us incredible bereavement care. I’m not sure how we would have coped during this time without them. So for that I want to say thank you. 3 years have passed now and we miss Dad more than anything. If there’s one lesson I’ve learnt during my grief it’s to never take any day for granted and to live everyday to the fullest so I’m running in his memory (although he would laugh at me for doing this🤣) and to raise as much as I can for an amazing hospice who have helped so many families.
