Story
Why trek up Mount Kilimanjaro? Well we like a challenge and trekking up the highest single free-standing Mountain above sea level in the World at 5,895m (19,340ft) seemed like a good idea.
Whilst the challenge will be very physical, especially given our age & condition, trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro is also a mental challenge with the big unknown being whether our bodies can cope with the altitude.
At the summit of Kilimanjaro there is 49% less oxygen than at sea level. Altitude/mountain sickness will be our biggest challenge and until we are there we won't know how either of us will react.
Will, and all the pupils of Paternoster School, face daily challenges which are far greater than the ones we will face attempting to trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. So if you can spare a few pounds towards a great cause, and support us attempting possibly the hardest thing we have ever challenged ourselves with, then we would be most grateful. The full cost of the challenge is being met by ourselves so EVERY penny raised will go directly towards the Friends of Paternoster School and Acorns Children's Hospice Trust, which has a separate Just Giving Page for this same challenge.
Friends of Paternoster School [FOPS] works to provide enrichment activities for the pupils of Paternoster School, a special school in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. Paternoster School has 50 pupils aged 4-16, who have a range of additional needs, including complex health conditions and profound and multiple learning disabilities. Our main funding focuses at the moment are music therapy, and our biggest project to date – the building of a fully accessible playground for our students, their families and the wider disabled community.
