Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
When one of us (who the hec was it?!) suggested climbing Mt Kilimanjaro for charity and we all said an American-style "hell yeah!" I'm not sure we had fully appreciated what we had taken on. But 9 months later, with some of the UK's finest peaks under our belts, a load of fancy gear and a pretty good idea, we are about to embark on our East African adventure. We have all paid for the trip ourselves. Heavens, we are even proud owners of merino wool underwear (no they're not itchy, mum!).
So as we prepare the final snack list (Elkie), fret about what to wear in the evening (Rachel), seek out that last piece of neon kit (LJ) and check whether pork pies can be taken into Tanzania (Scott) we also turn our minds to why we are about to spend a week climbing Africa's highest mountain. And it's simple: we want to remember two special people, Dominic Sutton and Chris Martin, and raise as much money as we can for an amazing cause - UCLH Charity. Chris was treated at UCLH (at the UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre) and Dom's bowel surgeon is working on a research project where the money that you kindly donate will go.
Knowing all of us as you do there'll doubtless be stories to tell on our return - the al fresco ablutions, the absence of porcelain, having to wear a head torch at night, singing Hakuna Matata at 6000 metres - and it will all be worth it to know that we will have done it to raise money for this incredible cause.
Wish us luck, show us some love, and thank you for taking the time to read this. Some photos attached to show our training effort over the last year too 👌🏼
