Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you know, my horse Bertie lives at Wimbledon Village Stables, which organises the longest running, most successful sponsored ride in the country, and since the first ride in 1975 we have raised nearly £1 million.
This is an opportunity for me and Bertie to wear fancy dress and parade down Wimbledon Village High Street, followed by a ten mile ride around the beautiful woodland of Wimbledon Common and scenic open spaces of Richmond Park. In previous years I have dressed as The Wicked Witch of the West, The Fuschia Fairy, and last year as Long John Silver's parrot. Bertie is very game and has dressed as a spider, a unicorn, and last year as Long John Silver himself!
The object is to raise money for charity, and again this year our funds will be shared between the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators. The Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators are responsible for the protection and preservation of Wimbledon Common, Putney Heath and Putney Lower Common. Much of the Commons are a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation. With woodland, scrubland, heathland, mown recreation areas and nine ponds, they are home to a
wide variety of bird, animal and plant life and require careful conservation.
