Story
On Sunday 14th April I will be running the Sheffield Half Marathon for Cavendish Cancer Care.
On the car journey home from the hospital after my initial cancer diagnosis 18 months ago, I told my husband that I would run the Sheffield Half Marathon when I was 40. I knew I needed a clear goal and everyday since I have visualised myself running through my village of Dore in Sheffield with my children proudly cheering on their strong, healthy (slightly knackered) Mummy, competing in the Half Marathon. And despite the bleak outlook and the gruelling treatments, I never gave up on my goal. So here I am, 40 years old, training (in a fashion), still battling the emotional and physical effects of my diagnosis and treatment but so utterly determined to do this, to reach my goal and to make my children proud.
We are so lucky to have Cavendish Cancer Care on our doorstep in Sheffield. Their ongoing support has been incredible and in my opinion has made such a huge difference to the outcome of my treatment. They have been there not only for myself but for my husband and children too. It is a sanctuary for anyone facing this most awful of diagnosis and is just such a super special place.
Cavendish Cancer Care is a Sheffield charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for those living with cancer and their loved ones.Last year, they supported over 1,700 people affected by cancer, including carers and children. They offer free-of-charge packages of therapy and support, tailored to each individual's specific needs. But Cavendish only receive enough statutory funding to keep their doors open for about two weeks each year, meaning they rely on the generosity of the public to keep running. Put simply - they need your help.
