Gibside Night Run · 4 February 2017

We work in partnership with artists, care settings, schools, cultural venues and volunteers, to bring together the arts and care sectors. Through our projects, we provide access to creative opportunities for older people, to reduce loneliness and isolation and improve quality of life and wellbeing.

Story

On Saturday 4 February Andy and I will be participating in a 6K run, it will be the first ever run I have done so it really will be all uphill for me! Oh and it's at night... in the countryside of Gibside Estate in the freezing cold... so it'll be head torches on and hope for the best!!

We're doing this event is to raise money for a project in partnership with Equal Arts called Creative Age. The creative sessions are for people living with dementia and their carers. The weekly workshops offer people the chance to create glass artwork and socialise in a friendly and welcoming environment.

Evidence suggests that participating in engaging creative activity can slow down the effects of dementia and, whilst there is no cure, these kind of activities can significantly increase people's wellbeing.
We have funding for the project for a couple more months but after that we need to find additional support. Since I co-ordinate the project I see first-hand how much people value the opportunity and I hear about the positive impact it has for those taking part.

All donations will be gratefully received.
