Story
Thanks for visiting my page.
I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation's research and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people still lose their lives. Heart and circulatory diseases cause more than a quarter of all deaths in the UK, that’s nearly 170,000 deaths each year – an average of 460 deaths each day or one every three minutes in the UK.
For me, the cause is one very close to my heart. I am running the London Marathon 2020 in memory of my Granddad, John Millerchip, who died very suddenly from a heart attack caused by uncontrolled high blood pressure in 2010 (almost 5 million people are estimated to have undiagnosed high blood pressure). Granddad died within seconds one Tuesday morning while reading his newspaper in bed. Nearly a decade later, the shock of losing him so suddenly is still reverberating through our family. It will be the 10th anniversary of his death in July. Granddad loved me unconditionally and I still think of him every day. He wanted the best for me always and would have been so, so proud that I am a nurse. To be running for the British Heart Foundation charity is so important to me; I want to raise as much awareness as possible for this potentially fatal condition. Granddad was very fit and seemingly healthy and had very few symptoms before his fatal heart attack - one of them was pain in his shoulders for a few days before his death. If he had been more aware of the more unusual signs of a heart attack, he may have gone to hospital.
I am sure that everyone reading this page will have a relative or friend who lost their life through heart disease. Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in the UK.Throughout my five years of work as a qualified nurse I have seen at first hand how prevalent heart disease is, but also, how avoidable. Making simple changes to your lifestyle, such as diet and getting active can prevent future heart disease. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target.
Thanks!
