Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year I'm raising money for The Gambia Patient Access Fund. The MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM operates a small hospital in Fajara, The Gambia, providing essential medical services to the local community. It's sterling reputation is rooted in high quality and respectful care, friendly staff, and affordable prices.

The hospital manages complicated tuberculosis, HIV, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and neurological challenges in adults as well as malnutrition, congenital conditions, rheumatic health disease and common infections in children. Patients admitted to the hospital are typically acutely unwell and urgent access to diagnostics is essential.

While tests available at the hospital are provided for free to patients, CT and MRI imaging along with other unavailable tests need to be outsourced to external centers. These can be costly, representing as much as one or two month's wages for patients seeking care at the hospital.

The Gambia Patient Access Fund was created to raise money to cover the costs of diagnostics and treatment to ensure all patients have access to care.

Donating to The Gambia Patient Access Fund enables doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals at the hospital to treat more people and continue to provide the best quality of care possible in Fajara.

If you are curious about what your donation could do:

  • £10 could pay for an echocardiogram
  • £50 could pay for a CT head scan
  • £100 could pay for an MRI scan
  • £150 could pay for a more complex CT scan with contrast
