Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Ned was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in September 2012 ,it was soon apparent that it was terminal and little could be done apart from pain management and radiotherapy. He had two courses of chemo around christmas, but decided to stop as he felt so wretched. The team at Dorothy House were so supportive and understanding in their care throughout the different stages of his illness .It was so good for both of us to know that there was someone to anwer any questions however silly they may have seemed at the time.We were able to talk and laugh or cry openly with Geoff our nurse.
One of the things that scared me the most was feeling helpless when Ned had an episode of acute pain and not knowing what to do. When I told our speacialist nurse about this he suggested that I attend one of the Dorothy House carers courses. I went with mum and we were greeted with such warm and the feeling of being wrapped in a safe place where you didn't have to explain from the beginning about what was happening ,and you could just be yourself for a few hours a week. I learnt a huge amount from the staff and other group members and whole heartedly believe that it made the last few days and hours with Ned so much easier because I had the information to draw on which I had been given on the course.
We laughed and cried together through those 6 months , but most of all we talked honestly to one another and had a deep love and affection to carry us through the dark days.
So Mum and I will be walking around Bath in memory of Ned , the last laugh is with him, as he hated the idea of going for a walk ! To all the freinds and family who were there for us ., I will be carring you all with me as I go for a midnight adventure.
we are still working out what to wear but will try and get spiderman and Neil young in there somewhere !
