Story
I am marching 5km with The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Band who are delighted to be taking part in the inaugural UK Tunnel to Towers run in London.
The event will start from King's Stairs Gardens, Bermondsey. It will pass through the Rotherhithe Tunnel and Wapping before finishing with a street party in the shadows of Canary Wharf Tower in London's Docklands.
The band will be marching the full 5km of the run route and will be timing the march to arrive at the finish line around the time of the main runners. This will NOT be as easy as it sounds as our military uniforms are very heavy and we will end up VERY warm!!!
The band will then perform during the street party afterwards at Billingsgate Market.
Most importantly, the band will be marching to raise money for a number of charities and I have chosen The Stroke Association. As some of you may be aware, my mum suffered a stroke in her sleep in November 2008. After coping with several after effects including an erratic heartbeat, she passed away suddenly in December 2010 leaving a massive gap in my life.
This is a huge ask for both me and the band and will be very challenging, but it's an event we are really looking forward to!
