Story
In 2013 I woke up one morning to be told my wee brother had died. It was suicide - he was just 19 years old.
I didn't know how to cope with the trauma and made some poor lifestyle choices just to get through each day for the first few years.
I've since turned it around and found being active is not only a great way to heal, but I can also challenge myself and help raise funds for SAMH. I'll be running 13.1 miles on Sunday 29th May 2022 at the EMF half marathon.
In addition to community support and education, SAMH fund research and training in suicide prevention.
SAMH also have a resource called "After A Suicide" which I was incredibly grateful for when I was so desperate for any sort of answer. This is just a drop in the ocean of what they do but it had a big impact on me.
It's a wound that will never really heal and a pain I'll always carry, but I'll live every day fully for the both of us.
