Story
On the 20th September 2022 I received a phone call that made my blood run cold. My little sister was seriously ill and in the ICU.
Initially we were told to prepare to say good bye as her condition was very poor and the prognosis was she was unlikely to survive. However the staff at the RUH were fantastic and every hour they kept her alive was another hour she was able to fight to survive.
Our minute by minute vigil, became hour by hour and eventually day by day until she was recovered enough to come off the ventilator.
2.5 weeks later, she came home. Her physical recovery to date has astonished the ICU and wider staff body because the initial situation was so serious, but my sister is strong and she kept fighting.
There are life altering changes and some very sad aspects that we will all be processing for a long while yet, but she made it and is gaining strength day by day.
To honour my sister and acknowledge in my own small way her losses and strengths I am going to shave my head on New year's Eve. I won't be doing it alone as my Sister in Law Sharon has agreed to join me and to shave her head too.
Not one to waste, I will be donating my shorn tresses to the Little Princess Trust.
Please give any amount you can spare, this department really is fantastic.
Thank you for reading and for helping us to raise money for this wonderful cause.
