Story
Although no longer a dramatic feature of the nightly news, the Refugee Crisis continues. Boatloads of desperate men, women, and children arrive daily on the Greek islands, then languish in insecure limbo -- cold, hungry, in often horrific and unsafe conditions -- awaiting the outcome of their asylum applications. The borders of Fortress Europe are closed north of Greece, and despite the heroic efforts of NGOs and volunteers, the Greek government and people are increasingly unable to cope with the growing pressure within their borders.
With a small group of committed individuals, I am walking from Thessaloniki to Skopje in the footsteps of the hundreds of thousands who passed that way before the curtains of razor wire and teargas descended to block their passage. We are walking to raise awareness of the plight of those families -- who cherish dreams of a secure and peaceful future that mirror our own -- and to raise funds for improving their physical and mental well-being.
Please consider a contribution that will support my walk: your donation gives a refugee family something extra – a little of their dignity back.It will provide them with fresh and enjoyable food, much needed clothing and important activities to help them now and in their futures. *How* we do things is just as important as *what* we do. Refugee Support Europe works in a way that puts dignity and normality first. As a a small and independent charity, it makes sure that all of your donation goes where it is most needed. Quickly. While also supporting the local, host community.
Thank-you.
