Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are both nurses who have worked for the Countess of Chester Hospital for over 20 years. We are good friends who have worked together at The Jubiliee Day Surgery Centre for the past 10years+. Working in Day Surgery, we care for patients affected with Breast Cancer both pre and post operatively.

We have both completed a few Half marathons over the years and are very excited to have been given the opportunity to take part in this fantastic event, we are very much up for the challenge (hopefully).

We are both committed to raise as much money as possible for this great cause and feel very lucky to have the backing of the fantastic Jubilee Unit, who have pledged to support us with the fundraising.

A little bit about what the money is going to...

Breast Cancer is most common cancer in the UK and each year 55,000 people are diagnosed (approx 300 being men). 2 out of 3 patients are alive 20 years on. in Chester:

  • approx 250 breast cancers are diagnosed each year
  • approx 60 new patients are assessed per week
  • approx 50 ultrasound scans are performed per week

Ultrasound scans are vital in:

  • assessing breasts to diagnose both benign conditions and cancers
  • ensuring there is accuracy with taking biopsies for the correct diagnosis
  • helping with surgery with inserting wires and markers to help assisst with finding the cancer

. Our Breast Care Unit currently has 2 scanners which are used daily. A new ultrasound scanner is required to replace an existing scanner, which was installed back in 2009 with charitable funds.

The Countess of Chester Charitable funds has a target to raise £120,000 to replace this Ultrasound Breast Scanner.

Any donations big or small would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for your time

Clare and Rachael
