Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Monday 20th April 2020 my mam lost her battle with Covid-19, both her and my dad hadn’t been feeling very well for about 2-3 weeks  previous but neither of them had Covid-19 symptoms. My mam being the strong woman she was just carried on as normal, still going to work, shopping and everything else she used to do without complaining.

She had been having problems with her bladder for nearly a year and due to this she couldn’t sleep for more than 30 minutes without having to go to the toilet. She was due to get tests done just before she went into hospital, but due to Covid-19 they had been cancelled.

She was exhausted both physically and mentally but she just carried on with her life as normal, still going to work every day and never going on the sick even though she probably could have.

This was the reason she went into hospital in the first place, as she was told by her Doctor that if the last treatment of antibiotics didn’t work then she had to go to A&E. My brother Jon took her to Hospital on Thursday 9th April 2020 and she was admitted to the ward and put straight onto Oxygen, from there she was tested positive for Covid-19 and moved to a different ward. She needed more and more Oxygen until she was moved to ICCU and put on a CPAP machine.

She stayed on this machine constantly for 10 days only removing it to drink water, all of the doctors couldn’t believe how strong she was, as most people can’t tolerate it for more than a few hours ! We spoke with her a few times and she seemed in good spirits and was determined to get better ! She even sent me a text message on the 16th wishing me a happy birthday. We were allowed to visit her on Saturday 18th April, Jon had brought her in her favourite Pink Lemonade Lucozade and she was over the moon, that and seeing us gave her a massive boost.

Never once did we think that she wasn’t going to make it, so when we got the news on Monday the 20th April that she had taken a bad turn, we rushed straight to the Hospital but didn’t make it in time, my amazing mam had passed away.

She used to look forward to spending time with her Grandchildren Jacob, Charlie and Oliver and she absolutely lived for them, spoiling them rotten every chance she got. Jon and myself would get phone calls most mornings when she was in Wilkinson’s in the town or Aldi at Southwick and had spotted a bargain for them.

After losing both of her brothers within 6 months of each other a couple of years ago we tried to get her to retire from work and enjoy her life, but she wouldn’t, she loved her job  for the North East Autism Society and had worked there for 18 years. It’s clear from the amazing messages of support from all of her friends and colleagues that she was loved by them as well.

We have set up this just giving page for people who wanted to send flowers to my mam, we would ask instead that you make a small donation to the North East Autism Society instead as this was something very close to her heart.
