WHY
During a group conversation on WhatsApp about getting fit and needing something to aim for, someone posted a link to the Race the Sun Brecon Beacons team challenge.
5 dads (it's a 4-man team on the day, so we have backup!) looking to for a goal to help them focus on getting fit.....
A great charity, Action Medical Research, looking for people to help raise money by taking part it a fantastic team event...
Minutes later it was booked, and it is happening!
BIKE
The route is 35 miles and split into two main sections. You’ll cycle along the Talybont valley before completing both the hike and kayak sections of the challenge, then its back on the bike to head back to Brecon and the finish line!
HIKE
With a total ascent of just under 700m, our circular 10-mile route starts in Tap Fechan Forest, taking in the mountain tops of Corn Du, Pen Y Fab and Cribyn
KAYAK
As a team you’ll take on the 2-mile course around Pontsticill Reservoir.
ACTION MEDICAL RESEARCH
Action Medical Research is the leading UK charity funding vital research to help defeat the diseases that devastate the lives of sick and disabled babies, children, and young people.
At Action Medical Research we are determined to stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability. By supporting us, you are helping to find ways to reduce premature birth, to support children facing a lifetime of challenges caused by disabilities, and to develop innovative therapies for rare and incurable diseases. Teams of four are taking part in this extremely tough dawn to dusk event where they will cycle 50 miles around the incredible winding lanes of the Brecons, navigate a 2-mile canoe course, and finally summit of Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons with an altitude of 886m, on an 8-mile round trip to raise money for this incredible cause. With your help, we're determined to make a real difference to children's lives.
