Story
Many thanks indeed to everyone who supported our efforts to raise money for this year’s ICR Climb of Life Appeal. 17 climbers and numerous dogs made up the Raby team having been assigned the fells around High Street in the north east of the National Park for this year’s human mountain endeavour.
Despite a changeable week, the weather last Friday was superb. The day began with cloudless blue skies and whilst the odd passing shower developed as the day progressed we enjoyed magnificent views all day. We departed Hartsop at 9.00 am and managed to top out on 4 Wainwrights (including High Street itself) before returning to Hartsop via Angle Tarn 12 miles later and a well-earned pint at the Glenridding Hotel.
This year’s event raised just over £51,000 overall for ICR and I am pleased to confirm that we made one of the largest single team
contributions of £6,000.
This year’s grand total means that this annual event has now raised over £1.65 million during the 33 years that it has been taking place with over £1 million raised for Institute of Cancer Research during that period. This of course would not have been possible without your generous support. All of us at Raby are therefore enormously grateful to you. Many thanks once again for your support and your donation.
Raby Estates is again supporting this annual event to raise money for the Institute of Cancer Research by participating in a “Human Mountain Endeavour” on the Lakeland fells. Last year a team of 13 walkers from Raby successfully completed the Fairfield Horseshoe
and raised over £7000. Once again this year, the Raby team will undertake this challenge and hopefully raise even more.
This annual event involves teams from businesses located across the north of England ascending Lakeland’s highest mountains in cold winter conditions.
This year's theme in 2022 is 'Sweet 16' as it's the 16th year Climb of Life has supported the ICR. This year we are excited to have new routes for us to climb in the Eastern Fells in our Lake District trekking for the 120 of us, as we raise vital funds for cancer research in our support of ICR. We will continue to help towards ICRs vital discovery programme into causes of an effective treatment of cancer. Cancer affects one in every two of us at some point in our lives and continues to be the most dreadful disease. The ICR and others continue to make progress in the science to combat cancer and with your support, we can all make a difference.
Raby Estates Team will be tackling the fells around High Street in the north east of the National Park. Our route will begin at Hartsop, ascending High Street via Stoney Cove Pike and Thornthwaite Crag before returning over The Knot and descending to Hayeswater and Hartsop. It’ll be a long day in the hills.
The event has raised more than £1.85 million for the Institute and other charities over the past 35 years. With your help, we would, if possible like to make this another record year.
Thank you.
