Story
Namaste/Hello
On Saturday April 25, 2015, Nepal was hit by a devasting earthquake that measured 7.9 on the Richter scale and has left over 8,000 dead and over 18,000 people injured. The huge earthquake has been followed by a series of aftershocks and has destroyed homes and schools forcing thousands of people into open spaces and temporary camps. The quake has also destroyed and damaged a number of Nepal's iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites and landmarks many of which Myself, Kunal, Nayan and friends Moose and Sunil visited only last year on a family trip.
Another earthquake struck on May 12, 2015 measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale , dozens have been confirmed dead including five people within the Indian states bordering Nepal. More than 1,000 people are injured.
My grandmother, cousin's, aunties and uncles live in Nepal and have been affected by the earthquakes. Many of my family members have lost their homes and some of their homes are now inhabitable. They are currently living outside in open areas in make shift shelters where food supplies are limited and with poor sanitation facilities.
Many families are struggling to cope in the aftermath of this disaster. The risk of waterborne diseases is growing rapidly, especially with the monsoon season a few weeks away. They urgently need tents, medication and food, especially for villages in remote areas which are not easily accessible.
