As the Coronavirus outbreak continues to spread across the world, the spread in Kenya has started to take hold, several weeks / months behind Europe. With social distancing and lockdown / curfews, one of the biggest issues facing the most vulnerable is the reality of starvation. It is forecast that 150,000 people will starve in Kajiado County, accounting for 30% of the population living in this County.
Memusi is responding in a number of ways:
1. SMART AID & Food Aid - supporting people who are facing into starvation. With markets closed and lockdown & curfew in place, peoples support mechanisms have fallen away overnight and those with livestock not able to trade. Through SMART Aid, we will unlock the capital of traders helping people to eat, with the funds supporting local economy & future employment
2. Fight against COVID-19 - soap, masks and awareness training - working alongside local partners to deliver support in the fight against the spread in rural Kenya
