Hazel's husband, Ken was first diagnosed with a brain tumour in September 2011. After successful treatment and a long recovery he was able to spend time with his loving family and friends, return to work, play a bit of cricket and travel to many countries.
Unfortunately in September 2013 a new, inoperable tumour was found and Ken passed away on the morning of Saturday, 23rd November 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
Ken never once complained about his illness or his lot. He was so very brave and his family are grateful for the extra time they were able to spend with him. Ken was treated with chemotherapy drugs researched and developed in the UK. Thanks to this Hazel and her family were able to spend two more wonderful years with him. This is an extraordinary long length of time for his type of illness and for which they are so very grateful.
One of
the best presents Ken ever gave Hazel was her bicycle. Only used in
recent years for around the village it has, since his death, now become a
way of helping her cope. And right behind her is Becs, encouraging her on
up those hills and into the blue yonder!
The last
two years with Ken were a gift from previous research. Hazel and Bec wish to
help support The Brain Tumour Charity
fund further research into brain tumours and their treatment in the hope that
future developments can increase the length of time other families get with
their loved one. Less than 2% of cancer research funding in the UK is
spent on brain tumours.
Always up for a challenge we have decided that the London to Brighton cycle
ride in September would be a good target to aim for and an opportunity to
support The Brain Tumour Charity.
