Solidarity Walk · 24 August 2014
The walk is on Sunday 24th August. It will start at 10am from The Queen
Elizabeth Hospital bus stop car park and finish at Sandringham Estate
Visitors Centre.
We asked our hospital colleagues and friends to
join in the fundraising by volunteering on the day. There will be about
a dozen volunteers - team of leaders, guides, people providing
refreshments, and first aid.
We, Andre Afonso (staff nurse in
main theatres), Jose Dias (charge nurse in Stanhoe ward – medical
gastrology), & Adriana Cunha (staff nurse on Terrington ward -
medical short stay) are the organisers. We are Portuguese colleagues,
aged between 25 and 30 and we met at the QEH. Andre has been here for
four years, Jose for three and Adriana for one year.
Adriana
says: ‘We wanted to organize a fundraising event in order to give back
something to the hospital and our patients. Our role as nurses in our
various wards does not stop with the immediate care we give to our own
patients but extends to all the Trust’s patients. With the increase
needs required by patients affected by dementia we thought it would be
appropriate to support them and at the same time give our care teams
extra resources’.
The funds raised will go towards purchasing equipment for patients affected by dementia to cater for their special needs.
