The walk starts at Hendaye on the Atlantic coast in France and finishes at Banyuls-sur-Mer on the Mediterranean coast. The route is one of the most challenging long-distance walking routes in Europe, covering over 800 km with 40 km of ascent and descent. I'll be sleeping under canvas for at least 45 nights, crossing snow, glaciers and maybe seeing bears.

It's a sad fact that the proportion of children in the UK regularly playing in wild places has fallen from over half to under 1 in 10.
