Holding court at El Mercado South's Backstage venue, the Purgatory Players Gospel Brunch has formed a peace-loving army of local songsters who turn midday Sundays into a musical, community event.
Through the primitive ritual of passing a tip jar, the Purgatory Player’s benevolent, breakfast taco-munching, mimosa-sipping audience have helped to fund much needed counseling and other support services to musicians and music industry professionals through SIMS Foundation.
SIMS is the only organization in the country that provides a person centered approach to mental healthcare and substance use recovery services for the music industry. SIMS works to destigmatize mental
health and engage the broader community to make behavioral health care affordable and accessible.
For over 25 years, the Central Texas music community has thrived knowing SIMS has their backs. SIMS Foundation is a judgment free, supporter of everyone who plays a role in creating the songs and music that sooth our souls.
A sobering outcome of COVID-19 is that many of our music venues have been shuttered for a year now, resulting in no income for so many in the music community. When SXSW 2020 was canceled and the live music industry shut down, SIMS saw an uptick in demand for resources as new and existing clients dealt with the loss of their livelihood. While the past year has perhaps allowed many to focus on the importance of mental health and taking care of themselves, the reality is that the need exceeds the financial resources most have available to them. With your help, SIMS will be there to bridge that gap
and ensure all have access to supportive mental health and substance use recovery resources.
The most important way to help right now is to donate if you can. Every donation matters and every dollar helps! SIMS Foundation and the entire music community are extremely grateful for the support
as we recover from this unprecedented period of isolation and uncertainty.
